What is Ecstatic Dance?

Its a freeform focused movement practice done around the world in growing conscious communities.

We started in Sarasota as the first Ecstatic Dance on the West coast of Florida in 2013. We’ve since grown and changed.

Our mission:

Who are we? “ We are a diverse multicultural community of all ages, abilities, who gather to celebrate and create a coherent field for dance, expression, embodiment, meditation and shenanigans.”

“We are committed to practicing and co-creating a culture of respect, personal responsibility, gratitude, transparency, acceptance, and unconditional love for self and other, on and off the dance floors, that we are grateful and blessed to dance on and occupy together and into how we dance with life itself.”

Monthly online workshops, monthly women only red tent ecstatic dances, and monthly full moon silent disco at sunset dances.

Kelly Atkins (aka dj kat) is a movement artist, facilitator, and community weaver who has been offering ecstatic dance as a living practice for over 13 years. Her work invites people into the body as a place of listening, resilience, and creative truth—where movement becomes both medicine and art.

Kelly’s approach is rooted in continuity: dancing through life’s initiations—grief and joy, study and caregiving, love, loss, birth, and rebirth. She has moved alongside personal and collective transformation, weaving somatic awareness, improvisation, and trauma-informed presence into spaces where people can explore freedom with care.

As the founder of Ecstatic Dance Sarasota / Ecstatic Dance Global, Kelly curates containers that honor consent, nervous system safety, and the wild intelligence of the body. Her dances are less about performance and more about remembering—remembering how to be with sensation, with music, with one another, and with what is alive in the moment.

At festivals and gatherings, Kelly offers dance as an art form of participation: a shared field where movers of all backgrounds are welcomed into rhythm, stillness, and authentic expression. Her facilitation is intuitive, grounded, and heart-led—inviting dancers to arrive exactly as they are, and to move from there.

RED TENT “Women only” onsight ( all genders welcome online) . These are monthly on the saturday after full moon …..$25 includes cacao…please wear red and bring a flower to show solidarity and for a collective art flower mandala

Who? We are a diverse and growing group of dancing enthusiasts from around the world that come together three times a week to move, play, dance, meditate, connect, heal, express and grow.

Music? The music is DJ-ed by Kai (Kelly Atkins) with a blend of world, electronic conscious and sacred music blended with dubstep, club, rap, techno/house, instrumental and chill. The music is chosen to open your dance, to experience lots of different vibrations (healing musical qualities and solfeggio rhythms/harmonics), emotions and musical genres and to inspire creativity. Its set up in a wave format. Kelly Atkins has been creating playlists and soundscapes for dance and conscious movement many years and has great joy making unique sound journeys for every dance. We welcome new folks to join anytime.
