Contact Improv

Saturday Pre Dance Activities - Contact Improv

Contact Improv is more than movement—it’s a practice of trust, awareness, communication, and connection through the body. This weekly donation-based gathering invites you to explore physical connection in a safe, playful, and supportive environment where there is no performance, no pressure, and no experience required.

Through guided movement, weight-sharing, touch awareness, and improvisation, participants learn how to listen deeply to themselves and others without words. Contact improv teaches valuable skills that extend far beyond dance—how to feel and communicate boundaries, how to recognize and respect a “no,” how to safely engage with others physically, and how to release fear, tension, and self-consciousness from the body.

Sarasota Dance Activities Featuring Contact Improv

Contact Improv at Soul Studios in Sarasota Held by DJ Kat

This practice helps cultivate:

  • Greater body awareness and confidence

  • Trust in yourself and your instincts

  • Healthy boundary communication

  • Emotional release through movement

  • Playfulness, presence, and authentic connection

  • The ability to physically and energetically “listen” to others

Led by DJ Kat since 2013, this container is known for its welcoming atmosphere, grounded guidance, and strong sense of community support. DJ Kat creates a space where people can safely explore connection, movement, and vulnerability at their own pace while feeling seen, respected, and encouraged throughout the experience.

Whether you’re completely new to movement, part of the ecstatic dance community, or simply looking for deeper human connection, Sarasota Contact Improv offers a supportive environment to reconnect with your body and experience authentic human interaction through movement.
