Contact Improv: A Welcoming, Trauma-Informed Movement Space
Contact Improvisation is a collaborative movement practice where we explore weight, balance, listening, and creativity through shared movement. In this space we welcome all bodies, all experience levels, and all ways of participating. Whether you are brand new to movement exploration or have years of dance experience, you are invited to join at your own pace.
Our intention is to create a trauma-informed environment where participants are supported in staying connected to their own boundaries, choice, and inner awareness. You are always encouraged to listen to your body and honor what feels right for you.
In this practice:
• Consent and choice are central. You decide if, when, and how you engage with others. Saying yes, no, or changing your mind are all welcome.
• Participation can take many forms. You may dance with partners, move solo, observe from the edge of the space, or rest at any time.
• We prioritize awareness over performance. There is no expectation to look a certain way or move in a particular style.
Through simple guided explorations we will practice skills such as:
• sharing and receiving weight
• sensing balance and counterbalance
• moving through curiosity and play
• deep listening with the body
Contact Improv can be athletic, meditative, playful, and deeply connective. The focus is not on getting it “right,” but on staying present, respectful, and responsive to yourself and others.
Together we co-create a space of respect, curiosity, and care, where movement becomes a way to explore trust, creativity, and embodied awareness.

Fee: by donation ($15-25 recommended) . Many stay for Ecstatic Dance that follows on Saturday. Ecstatic dance is $20. So both $35 or as needed.
